Thread: Bees Eating Wax?

    Default Bees Eating Wax?

    Hi,

I was doing the weekly inspection today and noticed that 1 of the frames has quite a few bits of foundation missing, especially at the wire bits...

Can someone help? I don't know if this is something to worry about.

Also, there were no stores so I gave them some syrup

    Cheers,
    Derek

It's not uncommon, they will move wax around the place, especially from the bottom of frames. They don't like the wire much in frames and you'll often see a line of empty cells running along where the wire is.

They're not so much eating it as moving it from where they don't need to where they do. They also make 'passageways' through the combs. On the larger frames like 14x12s I've noticed at they do tend to remove the bottom edge of foundation as a matter of course. It might not necessarily look pretty, but they seem to know what they're doing
