I have just read the article about W.G Avery (Founder of the SBA) in the latest SBA magazine.
The article was originally written and published in the 1924 SBA magazine and has been re-published as part of the SBA centenary in 2012.
The writer in 1924 commented on the fact that Mr Avery still cherished his preference for native bees. Having proved the superiority of the native bee in poor districts such as Edinburgh and that they can more than hold their own against all-comers.
Mr Avery also looked confidently to the future when an improved native race will bring prosperity to Scottish beekeeping.
The writer of the article in 1924 also commented that he had seen more black bees since the advent of Isle of White Disease in the Edinburgh college apairy.
