    Default Bee cam

I see that the Melton Mowbray Carniolan bee cam is showing a little bit of flying today, a cluster that seems dispersed, and a few bees dipping into cells and moving around a bit.

I think that the guy running it happens to be called Gavin.

My were bearding at the entrances today and a lot of them were bringing in ivy pollen at 8c.
I took a few seconds of video & will post later.
There was a great amount of spring cleaning going on and I took the opportunity to collect dead bees for morphometry.

My lot have been out and about too, mostly doing hivework. Looks like a massacre, doesn't it! Interestingly the ones that were apparently superceding late in the year were chucking out some drones as well as dead workers. Odd to see crawling drones in December! Perhaps they held on to them as insurance. It will be interesting to see what's going on in this colony in spring or if the temperatures rise sometime this winter and I can take a wee look. (Not unheard-of on Mull).

I went to apply the oxalic acid (trickle method) today & the bees in one of my hives were venturing out this morning before they knew I was there which was good to see- it was about 6 degrees. In the other hive the bees only began to fly when I took off the top box (I'm using the double brood box system) to apply the solution. Both looking good and gave me a good telling off for disturbing them
