    Default Irish border

Can Irish beekeepers move bees over the border between North and South without a health certificate?

Yes, they can, but they can't do so legally!

Similar to any land border between EU countries, adherence to the rules is not going to be complete. Even England (stopping off point for most of the EU imports that reach Scotland) has leaky borders regarding the bee trade despite its Border Inspection Posts at ports for animal imports .. although it is a lot less leaky now than in the past, so people tell me.

The legislation has curtailed exports from the non-UK part of Ireland to the UK (including N Ireland), and from Northern Ireland to the rest of the island - as no-one wants the bother of obtaining certificates.

What happens after the current mess is anyone's guess.

True - but bees themselves totally ignore the border while on their foraging rambles round the countryside :-)
