Thread: Queen record cards?

    Default Queen record cards?

    Hi,

I've just started queen rearing down here in Surrey and last week my first round of grafting didn't go too badly with over 50% acceptance for my very first go - which surprised me.

I've simply picked the two best queen I have to breed from but was wondering if there were any recommended way of recording your queen breeding over successive seasons so you can track the lines and performance.

I'm doing this at very small scale with a dozen or so hives - any advice will be gratefully received.

I use an individual record sheet under the roof of each apidea.
I use a colony record sheet which records the parentage of each queen heading the colony.
There is probably specialist family tree type software available but I just keep records in note form.

I just use cards for each colony here :- http://www.norfolkbee.co.uk/useful-documents
and write stuff down in a book.

just got an idea to make a pocket stockcard for checking 3 sites / or checking 1 site 3 weeks in a row..
because its over 20kb I cannot upload it, but it is based on this idea: http://pocketmod.com/

front page is a list of abbreviations
next 3 pages stock card for 16 colonies
then materials needed list (for next visit)
then 3 week calander (3-6-8 so a queen we do make)
    finally a page for notes.

IM me I can send it by email.
