    Default "Judas"

The guy who is alleged to have shouted "Judas" at Dylan when he first used an electric guitar in the UK - 50 years ago to the day - is thought to have died from an anaphylactic reaction to bee stings. A Google for "Judas Dylan bee" turned up this article in the Independent from a decade ago that has more detail.

Like a rolling stone from the same era, though the audio sync is shot

Probably a few of you know I dabble in instrument making/lutherie. So it's a bit spooky you guys talking about this. Just got an email from one of the main US lutherie suppliers who also do a series of tuition videos.

The guitar getting refretted in this video is a Telecaster played by Mike Bloomfield at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival in Bob Dylan's band. Strange how worlds collide - beekeeping and lutherie...who'd have thought?!

As a mere whippersnapper I'm a bit too young to remember the Newport Folk Festival (here's Maggie's Farm in 1965 about 5'17" into the video) but I did see Dylan in Earls Court ('81? or just possibly '78). Heck that makes me feel old ...

drumgerry ... does your workshop look anything like the one above? Respect!

If only......!! Dan Erlewine is a pro and I'm a mere dabbler. Got a few cool lutherie things though which also double up for beekeeping occasionally - the measuring things particularly and some of the power tools like my wee thickness sander.

I have a yellow 1970 Telecaster similar to that one but the one in the pic looks like it has been modified.

And to add to your weird and wonderful coincidences, I was born on Dylan's 20th birthday.
