    Default thymiangeist - Thyme spirit

    Hi

in Germany "thyme spirit" is often used to aid queen introduction, baiting swarms, and aiding joining colonies.
Is is in use in Scotland, and if yes, does any one have a recipe to DYI?
    thanks

    Calum

The top result on google at the moment is this post, at least in English.

At the risk of asking a stupid question, is Thyme Spirit basically the same as Thymol?

Hi Calum ... for bait hives I've used lemongrass oil. Others report using lemongrass and spearmint oil for queen introduction. I've not heard of thyme being used. If it's classed as an 'essential oil' (what makes it essential for goodness sake?) then there's a load of references out there ...

C4U made a reference to air freshener or something similar for uniting colonies just recently ...

I use (unscented) air freshener for uniting - a tip from a commercial beekeeper. Works very well. MUCH quicker than newspaper..
