Sitting here in Glasgow waiting for a plane to take me to Reykjavik. Should have flown off midday but due to a mechanics strike, I am still sitting here at 18.00 and just been told a plane is dropping in here at 21.00 to pick me up - jolly kind of them as this great big terminal is virtually empty and I have nothing better to do than try out a BLOG??
Yes, off to the land of fire, ice, volcanoes (or is it volcanos?) strikes, and whalehunters. The whale bit is why I am going. Young Jake from the USofA who runs a whalewatching outfit out there, works with me and we get called in to help get various outfits together and work together. The Wild North program and artic fox, Icewhale and other whalewatching companies, the Three Pearls and various other organisations. All good stuff and very interesting.
Now I did go online and do some icelandic bee research. They find it pretty difficult up there, mainly due to wind rather than cold. No disease as yet but Sweden, their main bee/nuc supplier apparently does now have problems. Anyway I shall try and make a bee contact via Siggurstein, who is an Icelandic wonder boy who seems to be able to arrange anything - even telling the strikers today that what they were doing was highly illegal, get back to work and fetch Richard from Glasgow immediately!! It's great to have good friends!!
Will try and keep in touch - POPZ
