Changes at Minnowburn Apiary

Nipped over to check bees at lunchtime today accompanied by the dog.

It is still quite wintery looking and the temperature was about 4c in the sunshine. Not much leaf to be seen although there are willow catkins bearing pollen.

I bumped into one of the National Trust wardens and they have planted a little orchard of Native Irish Apple Trees between the allotments and our Apiary. The orchard will be fenced in so we will now be able to get from the car park to the apiary via the allotments without having to jostle with a field full of bullocks. the rootstock is MM106 so that should give a 10-12 foot tree in a few years time.

The other development is that an old barn is being knocked down shortly which will give more car parking space for our queen rearing group members in the summer.
The double barn can be seen in the background and the trees are planted between the apiary and the Polytunnel in the background

We are absolutely spoiled here as we have a key to use the NT premises as well.
