beekeeping apprentice

Rate this Entry
Hi all,

I' ve been accepted into the Peace Corps and in the autumn will be heading off to central America for 2 years. I'm being encouraged to learn beekeeping, as honey would be a good way for subsistence farmers to supplement income in small villages. I've just bought a book on honey bee biology, but have no experience beekeeping. Is there anyone in or around Edinburgh that could do with an apprentice/slave labour this spring or summer? I'd be very keen to learn, and would perform chores or menial tasks in exchange for the opportunity.
Cheers!
Ivan

    Hats of too you!
How good is your German? I could maybe arrange a crash course over here (in German)....
Or if you are up for it a weekend crash course in English. Ryan Air/ Easy Jet fly to my area from Edinburgh (Memmingen) I think...

    Hi Ivan,
Perhaps the best option would be to post a question on the forum http://www.edinburghbeekeepers.org.uk/
I am sure there will be interest.
Good luck with your Beekeeping and the Peace Corps!

    Hi there,

Thanks very much, unfortunately I speak not a lick of German... I'm looking into beekeepers in edinburgh but just might get in touch at some point if your offer still stands.
