Finally, finally, finally. Making the most of the lovely day to finally get my hands in the hive. Although my eagerness to get the lid off the hive was somewhat tempered by one of the neighbouring plot holders coming over to introduce herself and let us know she's prone to anaphylaxis from bee stings.
It took all of 3 second once she made her way to the gates for the smoker to be lit and the suit to go on.
So let's get the numbers out of the way, right now there's:
7 frames of brood,3 sides capped the rest mostly eggs and very young larvae at the moment.
a frame and half of stores and 2 and half frames currently unused.
There's a little drone brood at the moment, maybe quarter of a side in total but no drones active in the colony right now.
The queen is also sporting a nice new red spot because I'm too lazy and cheap to have sorted out a selection of colours. I decided against clipping in the end. I get the arguments for it but I think I'll take my chances.
Things are looking quite encouraging at the moment and the next couple of weeks will be interesting.
