Very newby. Have smith hive and have been reading every book and forum I can but the more I read the more confused I get. Bees are still busy with balsam and willow weed and now wonder if I should start with the apiguard as early August is frequently advised for treatment and when should I remove the supers. Advice would be appreciated

Hello Itwisnyme I’m sorry to see that the more prolific contributors to this site haven’t bothered to answer your query so I’ll have a go. I usually remove all my honey by about the third week in August but each area of the country is different. If most of your honey is sealed then the easy answer is to take it off your hives. Even if you leave your unsealed honey on for the next week or two the bees still might not seal it. I always think any honey gathered at this time of year should be a bonus for the bees and not the beekeeper. (This does not apply if your bees are at the heather.) You should definitely remove all your honey before starting any varroa treatments and don’t forget to feed your bees. Try posting your questions in the forum section of this website and you might get quicker answers.
