  1. Varroa Tolerant Bees II

    Looks as though I was successful with my “cut-and-paste” intro so will now try to recall all I wrote and lost, easier said than done these days, 84 in April. What I am about to write may cause some of you to want to query. That’s OK. I will attempt to give answers or advice. I learnt my beekeeping ib 1943 so have a reasonable amount of acquired knowledge.
    When reading some of your threads I felt I may be able to clear up a few points about my work and perhaps give hope to those of you trying ...

  2. Varroa Tolerant Bees

    Last night I came across and browsed your forum for the first time. Sorry, but did not know it existed until then. I was particularly interested in the threads about VSH bees and saw that my name was mentioned a few times. All good I should add, though the info not always correct.

    I have tried to run the trial version of drawing both on XP and windows 8 but when I try to upload the scanned wings in the program locks and a dialog of program not responding then the program closes down can any one help with this problem

  4. Tiny red mite

    I am a newbee this year. Started with 2 nucs in April and now have 9 hives, all on at least a brood box, 3 on 2 brood boxes and supers. but did not touch brood boxes which are heavy. I removed 25 lbs of honey 10 days ago. Have been looking for varroa during the season examining drone brood but only saw one. Did icing sugar 2 weeks ago and got a few hundred tiny bright red mites in some hives (about the size of a pin head). they did not look like the varroa I saw in other bee keepers hives. ...

  5. The heather 2014

    In most years my bees have been struggling to get to full strength in time for the heather. Too much swarming, too many nucs produced, poor summers and my reluctance to spend money on sugar. After managing my colonies for strength this year, and replacing queens heading some stocks with something better (thanks Jon!) I'm optimistic about a better heather crop than recent years.
