Make up frames, mark queens, fill Apideas, have cups of tea, throw parties, site comfy seats for passing dignitaries, sit classes of learners to hear wise words, plonk planters bursting with bee plants. Set up a new apiary today near my parents house. I moved 6 Paynes Polynucs I had overwintered to the site this morning and set them up about midday. I opened them and left them a few hours while I did some clipping and marking at my fathers apiary. His log hive had swarmed on Thursday and the swarm had gone straight into an empty hive. On Saturday I spent a fascinating afternoon at the Laboratory of Apiculture and Social Insects at the University of West Sussex Just outside Brighton. As the traffic was a lot better than the weather I managed to get there early and had plenty of time to have a mosey around the labs and meet some of the great and the good of UK apicultural research.
