Now back from a very busy few days in Iceland. lots of good talks with the whalers, whalewatchers and others. The new volcano up there is really quite dramatic - a one kilometer long split with larva continuosly pouring out. Also had great display of northern lights. Unfortunately there was not time to meet up with any of the beekeepers up there, but a promise that we will on the next visit.

Mouseguard off today as the ladies seemed to be tumbling over each other trying to get in/out. Hope it is not too early as I have just seen the weeks forecast - snow and frosts!! Willow, hazel, gorse all flowering nicely and large quantities of pollen coming in. Feeding candy still and wondering how soon I can go over to syrup. Was hoping to this week, but guess I will have to hold off till weather warms up again. Completed another two bait hives with chepo flats from Thornes sale - the wood is really very inferior to their normal supply.

Nice to be back on Island.

Oh dear, Popz. Plane due to pick you up at 9 and you were posting at half past. You're not still in Glasgow, I hope?

Intrigued to know whether your american counterpart nearly died of firewater or whale!

    Popz:
you will lose any possible kudos gained by having your own TBH if you admit to eating a whale!
Don't go posting that on the biobees forum.

Had a wee chat with some whalers in the NW Fjiords iceland last year. Their response was freshly prepared minke on the table plus a not so wee dram. The meat was unbelievably horrible and the dram was definitely not as we know it - firewater with the water missing! Scrivens. It's amazing what we have to do to keep the flag flying. My american counterpart nearly died that afternoon! - Hah!
