Saw this on the Bee-L mail list and thought people might find it interesting.

Good video Nellie. Worth watching.
The queenright system rather than starter and finisher works well enough for me.
The queens in the video were a very good size.
Italians are the main stock used right through the Americas.
I know a commercial beekeeper in Mexico near where I work who has 800 colonies of Italians. She has to requeen regularly because of the problem of Africanized queens if you let them open mate.

We had an interesting talk at the recent Avon spring day school from a guy, who's name eludes me at the moment, who raises queens here and spends time every year in California. The set up there is vast, and they're raising hundreds of thousands of queens a year.

It's nice to see the whole thing through, from beginning to end. No matter how often I see videos of queen rearing I always find it quite amazing.

Is it okay to add another 'method' of queen rearing to this thread?

The more the merrier I reckon bumble. This is the first year I intend to try organised queen raising past via artificial swarming and I've found the videos I've seen so far, even demonstrating at this scale very useful.

Excellent! I don't have an i-Anything but I've just tried on my Blackberry and it works fine.

While not a 'how to' video, here's a link to a series of short films showcasing different stages of the process as carried out by Martin Braunsten's Malka Queen company -Industrial Queen Rearing by anyone's standards!

hope you enjoy them.
