View Full Version : Closing bees up for a day

Have to close bees up for a day while workmen repairs neighbours wall (he's terrified of bees and already been stung - we lent him a suit but they gat him on the hand). Any advice?

The hive/hives will need plenty of ventilation and kept out of the sun, you don’t want to cook the bees (I learnt that the hard way). If you can replace the crown board with a travelling screen that would be ideal. Alternatively you could put an empty super below the crown board to give the bees a bit more room. You’ll need to put mesh over the holes in the crown board and the entrance so as to give the bees as much ventilation as possible. Get up early and close them in before they start flying and remember to spray the bees with clean water several times through the day. Try not to stress the bees or this could lead to rapid overheating. Good luck. P.S. remember to leave the roof off.

I've also heard of others putting up a large umbrella to provide shade (as well) ...
