I have just received my latest consignment of Cedarwood planking from Timbmet in Glasgow.I buy it as 6x1in and 6x2in planking using the 1in boards straight or edge jointed for the sides and ends and the 6x1for the top and bottom cleats for Nationals brood boxes and supers. The 6x1 works out at just under £2.00 per ft run and the 6x2 at just under £4.00 per ft run, this equates to £15.00 for a super and £21.00 for a brood box - quite a saving over the commercial boys.A complete hive - floor, broodbox, super crown board ,roof and all the associated metalwork works out at about £66.00 - not bad for a Cedar hive.

Hi Grizzly.

In the Thorne January sale this year a flatpack national Brood Box cost £16.08 +vat and 10 supers cost me £108.69 + vat.
These are cedar seconds with a few knots in the wood but absolutely nothing wrong with them and all the pieces are pre cut to exactly the right dimensions.
carriage is free if you spend over £100.
£66 for a complete hive sounds good when you compare it to a Beehaus (http://www.omlet.co.uk/products_services/?view=Beehaus&about=Price) which costs £465!

My hives equate to first quality not seconds.
