Well worth watching the embedded video in this Scientific American article (http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/brainwaves/2013/06/19/more-than-honey-a-new-documentary-offers-spectacular-close-ups-of-bees-mid-flight-and-perspective-on-the-worldwide-honey-bee-crisis/) on a film about honeybees. It's clear that some of the video is a composite of some sort, but the mating comet scene and the mating act itself is very good. Nice cigar ...

I'll go with that. A refreshingly different video for a change.

Interesting ... great film of cells being drawn out. I can't imagine they filmed that in a full-strength cell raiser as there are simply too many bees to get in the way.

Very envious of their mating site ... I wish mine was as scenic.

That filming is fantastic.

Anyone know if it is getting screened in Scotland anywhere ?

I'm out and about (on the Isle of Lewis, waiting to get an exhaust fixed) so can't check the link but I think that this may be the film one of our locals has been trying to get shown somewhere. If so it is on at the DCA in Dundee. Will check it out unless someone gets there first.

Looked up the organisation who made the original film. They want about $150 plus you need to buy the performance rights.
However, Amazon is going to release it on Oct 21st for £9.84.
Our Association is planning to have a movie night with popcorn, large soft drinks and hotdogs so this film might be a contender for the main feature

Off topic, but that clip should be bookmarked to be shown to the next person who knocks short lugged frames because the 'handles' are too short....

Are long lugged frames used anywhere else in the world?

So do I ... and at €60 I suspect they can buy some pretty fancy cigars.
